O'Donnell Schmidt Memorial Scholarship Award for
the Association Of Great Lakes Outdoor
Writers |
The Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers, a
nonprofit organization, is offering two scholarships of $800, one
to an undergraduate and one to a graduate student, to be awarded
for the fall academic term, 2008. As a professional association of
communicators, AGLOW seeks to conserve, improve and promote
our natural resources and outdoor recreational experiences by
informing and educating the public through mass media.
AGLOW will reward an outstanding student who is
working toward a degree in outdoor communications. The ideal
candidate is a person with outdoor interests who wants to become a
professional in outdoor communications. That candidate should
possess a high degree of talent and an intimate knowledge of the
outdoors. Candidates will be rated on clarity, organization and
originality of their submission. Grade point average is also
considered. |
| Guidelines |
1.
Scholarships are available to undergraduates who shall be juniors
or seniors in the 2007-08 academic year and to graduate students
at any level. Candidates should be enrolled in departments,
programs, majors, or colleges in which emphases in journalism or
mass communications are given.
2.
Candidates must have a career goal in outdoors communication,
demonstrated by submissions of printed or taped materials, job
history, course record or other evidence of good faith.
3.
The application shall include:
- Current resume which includes present address, place and
date of birth, job history, colleges and universities attended,
major field of study, honors-awards-scholarships won, and any
organizational offices held.
- An official academic transcript.
- Examples of outdoor communications work. Include
tearsheets or copies of any published materials.
- A
one- or two-page personal statement detailing career and life
aspirations and goals.
- Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with
the candidate's work, including one faculty member of the
candidate's college or university.
Applications lacking any of the above will not be
considered

All materials must be received by the AGLOW Scholarship Committee
no later than June 30, 2008 |
